THRASHER Engineered Performance was commissioned
for the powertrain modifications of this "one of
a kind" GTP. That's right; there is only one in existence
of this series! Sadly, this prototype didn't make it to
production; it was to be a limited production run available
from the dealer. PONTIAC was unable to comply with some
of the special manufacturing requests because they would
not be supported by customary production flow. For example,
the desired paint scheme did not allow for the door "rub
strips". As a result, the doors could not have the
"rub strip" attachment holes drilled. After
Richard Petty's contract with Pontiac ended and Chrysler
began sponsoring his team again, the project was scrapped.
This project was a joint venture between Bruce Canepa
of Canepa Designs in Santa Cruz, CA; Danny Sullivan (1985
Indy 500 winner, 1988 CART champion) and Richard Petty.
Bruce and Danny are the guys pictured sitting on the car
hood. The majority of these photos were taken inside the
Indy 500 track on the golf course. Of course, THRASHER
was there assisting the photographer by positioning reflective
lighting shields in an effort to create some really great
shots. We think we accomplished just that.
Actually, no. We believe it's best to stick with
what we know and do it well. THRASHER's the one behind
the scenes doing what we do best; providing our customers
with proven, trusted performance products and services.
