TEP 12" rotor kit - test results

brake_site.gif (46723 bytes) We ran a few 60-0 braking tests on our favorite ultra-secret test road with our trusty Vericom G-force analyzer.  (Yes, the Vericom is not only good for 0-60 or 1/4 mile times, it also measures braking.)  For these tests we set our cruise control to an indicated 60 mph and simply floored the brakes as hard as we could when we crossed the "stop ahead" sign as seen, and let the ABS kick in and do the rest.  Yes, it is a slight down hill in this direction.  What did we learn?  First, the stock brakes work amazingly well and haul down to a dead stop mighty quick.  But, our 12" brake kit did even better!

Results: as you can see, our admittedly somewhat unscientific test show a consistant 10 foot and .1 sec improvement!

How do our test results compare to other published brake tests for '97-98 GTP/GS?

Motor Trend, Oct 96 60-0, 134 ft
Road & Track, Aug 96 60-0, 143 ft
Hot Rod, Oct 97 60-0, 134 ft
Auto Week, Feb 24, 1997 60-0, 139 ft

As you can see, our test results of 137 ft agree well with these published results, validating our test techniques.

How does a GTP/GS with our 12" brake kit compare in stopping distance with other high performance machines?

Acura NSX-T Road & Track, Aug 96 60-0, 128 ft
BMW 850Ci Road & Track, Dec 95 60-0, 129 ft
Corvette C4 LT1 Road & Track, Feb 94 60-0, 123 ft
Ferrari 512TR Road & Track, Jun 92 60-0, 125 ft
Lotus Esprit Road & Track, Jul 95 60-0, 137 ft
Mercedes SL600 Road & Track, Dec 95 60-0, 126 ft
Porsche 911 Road & Track, Sept 93 60-0, 128 ft
Corvette C5 LS1 Road & Track, Sept 98 60-0, 125 ft
Dodge Viper Road & Track, Sept 98 60-0, 147 ft

Wow, with the 12" rotor upgrade giving 60-0 in 127-128 ft, we're in extremely good company, right there with the Corvette, Ferrari and Porsche!

We feel our 12" brake upgrade has got to be the bargain of the century at $312.46!  You'll pay almost as much for stock replacement rotors by themselves (and you will need to replace your rotors someday)!   What other modification at this price can bring you into Corvette / Ferrari / Porsche territory?
