Technical Information and Test Studies

We spend an enormous amount of time, effort and money doing R&D here at TEP to find out what does and doesn't work.  These are some of our past test results for your information.

Eaton M90 Supercharger Teardown!
We figured there just may still be some of you out there
who haven't been crazy enough to totally rip your blower apart in a
desperate search for power gains, so we thought we'd do it for you!

L67 3800 SC Engine Teardown!
For some of you, this is nothing new and you've seen or done it all
before, but we thought this might be interesting for a few folks out there
who haven't had the opportunity to disassemble one of these engines so we took some photos while we tore this one down to build into a competitive engine.

High Stall Torque Converters!
convertor exploded.JPG (32774 bytes) We've been experimenting with high stall torque converters since 1997, and we're in the final stages of having a marketable product!  While others may claim to have high stall converters available with great streetability, do you actually know firsthand of anyone successfully using one?  We demand our products be effective, tested and proven with no streetability issues or we won't offer them - period.

Differentials & the 4T65e Final Drive Assembly
Differentials - you've heard a lot about them, you've heard about limited slip differentials and how we've got to have one no matter the cost, you've heard about the failures.  We've been experimented with (and broken) limited slip differentials since 1998 - here's what we've learned and what might be a possible solution to address the failures.

Exhaust Backpressure Study
We performed a simple backpressure study back in 1997 before any aftermarket cat-back exhaust systems were available on the market for these cars to find out how much power could be gained, or if a more aggressive exhaust tone would be the only benefit.

Electronic Transmission Pressure Modifier

In 1998 we investigated an electronic device which would modify the current from the force motor driver (of the engine/trans computer) to alter the force motor duty cycle, attempting to increase shift pressure.  Our conclusion - forget this - it just doesn't work.  Click here for the whole story.

L67 (our 3800 supercharged engine) and LS1 (97+ Vette) rocker comparison

LS1 vs L67 bottom.JPG (15413 bytes)

Thinking about changing to different ratio rockers?  One of our customers was confident the LS1 rocker could be easily adapted to our application.  Sorry, it won't.  These photos tell the story.

12" Brake Rotor and Carbon Fibre Pad Test Data
TEP did the initial research into adapting larger 12" rotors to the GT/GTP/GS using available GM parts from other applications back in 1997.  Check out our extensive test results with these 12" rotors and carbon fibre pads.

Your Engine Design Questions Answered!  Advanced Engine Design Q&A

Everything you ever wanted to know about engine design and more!  One of our engineers recently completed a graduate course in advanced engine design in a university's automotive mechanical engineering program and a selection of test questions and answers are presented here.  Frankly, this is pretty boring stuff but he felt he'd worked too hard answering these test questions not to have us offer it here as a sleep aid!  Peruse at your own risk - or if you need help sleeping.

86-87 Buick Intercooled Turbo Regal - Regal T-Type, Grand National
89 Pontiac 20th Anniversary Indy Car Trans Am

Oh yeah, these cars were absolutely the King of Muscle Cars and without a doubt the quickest mass-produced production car in history until the late 90's.  The RULED the street & strip in the 80's & 90's, and THRASHER chips absolutely revolutionized the entire industry.  Unfortunately THRASHER no longer supports or produces these chips - we're keeping this link for information only!  However, contact us if have an interest, if there is sufficient interest maybe we can make it happen.
